2 x Vanilla Cake box mix (I use betty Crocker)
1 x Best ever buttercream frosting coloured Yellow (see blog)
1.5kg fondant icing (I use Satin Ice)
Yellow gel paste
1 wafer or ice cream cone
Black icing pen
Icing sugar
Almond slices or Milo Duos (optional)
Instructions:
Make cake according to instructions in a dolly varden tin. Once cool trim flat, secure to cake board/stand and ice with yellow buttercream.
Using the icing sugar kneed fondant icing until it looses its stickness and tint yellow (don't forget to wear gloves!).
Roll icing into a rope long enough to reach around the cake and secure at the back starting at the base and stacking each until you reach the top, keep the joins at the back.
Trim wafer into a rounded door shape and position on the beehive using buttercream as glue. Tint a small amount a darker yellow and roll into a small rope to frame the door.
Make a couple of bees by shaping foundant into a body. Use the black icing pen to draw lines and eyes on the bee. Use Almond slice, Milo duo or white fondant as wings for the bees. Attach to the cake with a small amount of buttercream.
